When the man behind an idyllic forest holiday development was struggling to borrow to finance his plan, assistance from Bricks Finance proved to be a real game-changer.

Alex King, a local geologist with a background in mining, is unequivocal when he assesses the unique scope of his plans for a forest holiday village with a difference in Cornwall. “No one else has ever really attempted anything like this,” he says. Having purchased an ancient woodland two miles north of Polperro, Alex’s big idea was to build a holiday village which would be a case study in environmentally sound construction ethos, producing sustainable holiday lodges which were completely at one with their forest surroundings.

The problem was with its uniqueness came complications with securing the necessary funding from traditional routes. “It really was so ambitious and so very different to which had gone before that it closed a lot of doors in terms of funding,” reveals Alex. “Basically the computer said no.”

Alex reveals: “I was possibly on the verge of giving up when my broker told me he had recalled something about Bricks and how they had helped another business, so we set up a meeting and then things moved pretty swiftly. “I loved the way you could just sit down with two of the partners from Bricks, explain the proposition and get a pretty swift decision from them. You are dealing with guys who are investors themselves so they want to back projects if they can and their experience shows when they support you and believe in what you are doing. You can tell they are investing in the person as much as the idea and I am so pleased to be working with them.”

Alex accepted a cash offer for the development and he has been asked by the buyer, an established national forestry developer, to join their team.
